Would you believe if I tell you that Ahamaq (released as Idiot), a SRK starred movie, couldn’t make it to the big screen!
SRK who got fame from a negative role played in 1993 released Darr, played a scary negative role in The Idiot.
The movie was all set to release back in 1991, but, due to some issues, it ended up screening on Doordarshan channel as a mini-TV series.
Ahamaq movie of Shahrukh Khan was based on a novel named, The Idiot, written by Fyodor Dostoevsky, a known Russian novelist. Other than King Khan of Bollywood, Imam Khan, Ayub Khan-Din, and Mita Vashisht played the prime characters in the film.
In 1991, the Ahamaq movie was aired on Doordarshan in four episodes. It was renamed as ‘The Idiot’ – following the novel’s name itself.
In October 1992, this 165 minutes long film was screened during New York Film Festival, where it was well-received by the audience. Still, the movie never got a commercial release.
Now after 25 years, the SRK’s never-released-film is going to be screened at Mumbai Film Festival. The festival is scheduled for 20-27 October.
The film was directed by Mani Kaul and was written by Anup Singh, Hemendra Bhatia, and Rajiv Kumar.
SRK himself tweeted the poster of the film. According to him, this was his first attempt into the cinema. Till now, it was believed that 1992 released Deewana was his debut film.
