Konidela Siva Sankara Vara Prasad, popularly known as Chiranjeevi, is an Indian superstar with his significant contributions in Telugu cinema. Besides Telugu film industry, Chiranjeevi is also known for its works in Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi cinema. Since his debut, Chiranjeevi has worked in over 150 films till date.
Besides being a megastar of Telugu film industry, Chiranjeevi also hails from an extensive family of film stars. Another Telugu superstar Pawan Kalyan and a film producer Nagendra Babu are his younger brothers. One of the promising stars of the current age, Ram Charan Teja is Chiranjeevi’s son. Film producer Allu Arvind is his brother-in-law whereas Allu Arjun, another gifted actor of the modern day Telugu Cinema, is Chiranjeevi’s nephew and son of his brother-in-law.
Sai Dharam Tej, a talented actor of Telugu Cinema, is the son of Chiranjeevi’s sister whereas the newcomer Varun Tej is the son of Chiranjeevi’s brother Nagendra Babu.
While Chiranjeevi is one of the biggest stars of Telugu Cinema today, the early days of his career were challenging. Punadhirallu is officially the first film he acted; however, Pranam Khareedu is credited as his debut film as it is Chiranjeevi’s first feature film to release on the big screen.
In the first two years of his film career, Chiranjeevi mostly played negative or anti-hero characters. He garnered accolades and became a known name across the industry with his performance in the 1978 Telugu film Manavoori Pandavulu.
However, his career peaked after he started getting lead roles since 1982. Over the years, he established himself as a superstar in Telugu cinema, who showed his prominence in action, romance, and drama genres.
He gained fandom and appreciation from all over India and world for his exceptional breakdancing skills and action stunts. The 1983 action film Khaidi became Chiranjeevi’s breakthrough film, and there was no turning back for this megastar.
Besides Telugu cinema, Chiranjeevi is also known for his prominent works in Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi cinema. While many of his films are remade in Hindi, he has also worked in few of them.

In addition to acting, Chiranjeevi is also a successful film producer as well as hosted the Telugu version of Kaun Banega Crorepati. He is also known for his humanitarian works and is an active politician. There are many stars before and after him in Telugu cinema, but Chiranjeevi is entirely responsible for opening a new chapter in Telugu film industry by blending masala flicks with creativity.
Chiranjeevi’s contribution in Telugu cinema can be anticipated by the fact that his 1992 film Gharana Mogudu is the first Telugu film to gross over Rs. 10 Cr at the box office.
