Top Movies Based on Invisibility Theme or Invisibility Power
Mr. India (1987)
Being an Indian, the first film that comes to my mind concerning invisibility theme is the 1987 film Mr. India. Directed by Shekhar Kapoor, the film stars Anil Kapoor in the titular role, alongside Sridevi and Amrish Puri as a villain.
The film is about a common man named Arun Verma, who takes care of more than a dozen orphaned children with the help of his cook Calendar, played by Satish Kaushik. Through Dr. Sinha, played by Ashok Kumar, Arun retrieves a scientific wrist gear that when switched ON could make the person invisible.
Arun takes on a new avatar of Mr. India and uses this newly found power to help the needy and eventually comes to terms with Mogambo, played by Amrish Puri. The rest of the story is how Arun saves the world from Mogambo as Mr. India.
Hollow Man (2000)
Well, Hollow Man didn’t receive its fair share of success at the time of its release. However, the film can be termed as the closest scientifically correct movies compared to other films featuring invisibility theme.
Directed by Paul Verhoeven, the film is inspired by H.G. Wells’ novel The Invisible Man. The film features a group of scientists who are working on a serum that could make the subject invisible.
The lead scientist volunteers to experiment the serum on himself and it works on him, however, things go awry when the team is not able to reverse the process and that leads to chaos as the lead scientist, now the Hollow Man misuses the newfound invisibility and the rest of the team has to stop him at any cost.

The film is directed by Ford Beebe and tells the story of a fugitive named Robert Griffin, who is a mad, psychopathic killer on the loose. After an interaction with a scientist Dr. Peter Drury, Robert volunteers as a subject for an experiment to test formula for invisibility.

Predator (1987)
Predator is a science fiction action horror film released in 1987. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role, the film is actually about an alien predator, which is on a hunting spree in the guerrilla territory in Central America, where Arnold and his team of elite special forces are on a mission to rescue hostages.
All the elite special forces team members, including Arnold, are initially unaware of their enemy as the alien predator is invisible in the most part of the movie.
As his team members are getting killed by this invisible predator, Arnold decides to take charge against the predator and defeats it in its own game by hiding his heat signature using the forest mud. Eventually, Arnold triumphs against the alien predator.
Fantastic Four (2005)
Well, unlike other movies on the list, Fantastic Four doesn’t have the invisibility concept as its central attraction. The superhero film is based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name.
Although the central theme of the film is different, the film is listed here because of the mere fact that Sue Storm, a member of the Fantastic Four, acquires the power of invisibility and can generate force shields which give her the title of the Invisible Woman.
The Darkest Hour (2011)
A Russian-American collaboration, The Darkest Hour is a 2011 sci-fi thriller film based on the alien invasion theme. Directed by Chris Goak, the film is about a group of youngsters, who get caught up in an alien invasion by invisible entities that can disintegrate people.
These invisible entities use electric signatures to locate humans and disintegrate them instantly by using their latest technology. Eventually, the team of survivors realizes the weakness of their enemies and take the fight to them instead of running away and a new war begins.
Griff the Invisible (2010)
Griff the Invisible, as the title suggests, is a film about Griff, who has the power of invisibility. Well, you are partly right, but then there are many other elements that would make you wonder if that’s the real truth.
Directed by Leon Ford, the film is about a young man Griff, who is a socially awkward office worker and spends his day being bullied by his co-workers. However, at night, he is Griff the Invisible, a superhero roaming around the city fighting for the innocent. But, that’s not all.
The film takes a twist of turns when Melody enters Griff’s life and a series of surprises and shocking events follow from thereon confusing the audience about what’s real and what’s an illusion?
Predator 2 (1990)
Based on the similar theme as 1987 Predator, Predator 2 has a completely new cast with Peter Hall reprising the role of the alien Predator from the previous film. Again the film is about hunting down the alien predator or get hunted.
The alien predator still uses the power of invisibility and tracks down its victims by following their heat signatures. Owing to its cult status, the Predator franchise is well received among the audience as they enjoyed the duels and chases between humans and the alien invader.
